Governments should fear their people!
Tunisia Egypt Global Revolution Tribute - February 1, 2011 Ken O'Keefe
Isaac J. Conner - I am so inspired by and proud of the Egyptian people for being their own heroes! Governments should fear their people!
Jeanine Valencia - I can't get enough of this major event. Amazing!
Charmaine Boggs - More important--governments and those who govern should RESPECT the people they serve.
Isaac J. Conner - Ideally, I agree with you Charm. But when they perpetually cross the line on our rights, they would be foolish *not* to fear the people.
Charmaine Boggs - Fear would be unnecessary if the respect were honored. But that's probably not going to happen in an imperfect world.
Isaac J. Conner - Here in the States, I think we need to respect ourselves as a citizenry. As each injustice has taken place, predominantly by the W. Bush and Obama administrations, our society has largely ignored them by any means necessary.
An illegal war of aggression based on lies, crimes against humanity, use of torture, removal of habeas corpus, spying on us, removal of civil rights for which nobler people have died, and on and on and on... we are a nation addicted to comfort and apathy, and we choose to ignore our responsibilities in favor of banal entertainment provided to us while we sit on couches.
"People get the government they deserve." ~ Thomas Jefferson
He also said, “Every generation needs a new revolution.”
Abcar Indausa - well said Isaac
Charmaine Boggs - Isaac, although it is rare for you and me to agree on politics, I must admit that you have made some excellent points, particularly with regard to the apathy of the citizens of the US. That said, however, I have to add that much of that apathy is not out of disinterest, but out of the need to prioritize one's efforts. When it is a daily struggle to put food on the table and keep a roof over one's head, the bigger concerns become far less relevant to the individual.
Isaac J. Conner - Agreed again, and with an additional "however."
Without a revolution, we will continue this cycle of subjugation. The reason that so many are struggling to put food on the table is due to the relinquishing of citizenry responsibilities. This... allows the greedy criminals in suits that got the world into this mess to own our political processes. And when most of our fellow countrymen participate once every four years, and do so by voting for a business that is marketed as two dominant political parties, they ensure their and our decline.
No matter what economic hardship any of us are enduring, they can be traced to banking and war. 53% of our federal budget goes to killing people in our six wars. To use an analogy, it is as if we are overly concerned with symptoms because we refuse to admit we have a disease.
