James Berkheimer - I hate to dredge this up but one of my subscriptions on Youtube posted a video about this topic. I thought I would share.

Skip Pulley - Again, some people accept authority as truth rather than truth as authority. There are problems with both theories, but my questions about historical travel distances of land mass/water have YET to be answered by so-called debunkers.

James Berkheimer - This isn't a point of accepting something because someone else says it's true. That is a ridiculous argument. There is a process in science called the Scientific Method where new ideas are tested and questioned relentlessly to ensure the ...integrity of the field. Theories are questioned until enough factual data can be amassed that a consensus of the community comes together. Even after a theory is accepted as a law it is still questions and susceptible to challenge. Newtons laws were challenged and expanded upon by Einstein, modern String theorists are challenging Einsteins theories. This is how science grows. Open minds are welcomed and encouraged. But there is a point where being open minded just becomes being dumb and gullible.

With that being said, this "theory of the expanding Earth" has been thoroughly debunked. It was succeeded by Plate Tectonics after countless experiments over the past 60 years have produced data which supports it. 99.99% of the geologists out there accept it as how our planet works. But what I really think this is about is people wanting to challenge established "authority" whatever it's form, just to satisfy some inner personal frustration. Do you also believe that the sun revolves around the Earth? Because there are certainly still people out there who believe in that idea who reject the "facts" as government lies and propaganda.

But I digress, please do me a favor and explain to me your reservations about these historical travel distances. I might be able to answer your questions with my limited knowledge of geology. I do know that the author of that Youtube link would answer them for you as well, if you posted a reply to his video.

Skip Pulley - It may be true about some people's natural rebellion against authority, but I resent the implication regardless. Especially since authority, "history" and "accepted" scientific theory has been tilted in certain peoples favor for a very long time. So chip-on-your-shoulder or not, an open mind is warranted in all things scientific as well as spiritual and sociological.

James Berkheimer - How the hell can you tilt science in anyone's favor? Are you upset over the law of gravity because you want to fly? But as for your open mind. As I said there is a line you can cross. In this case your mind is so open that you are blind... to your errors. You are wanting to believe in something that is so obviously scientifically wrong all in the name of achieving some mythical zen state that allows you to see the world more clearly than others.

Let me key you into some real zen. It's not about just having an open mind. It's about having common sense and humility. It's about using your mind to better understand the world and being able to admit that you don't understand and being open to outside input.

You see, I am not worried that you actually believe the Expanding Earth theory. I am more afraid of why you believe in it. Crusading on wrong ideas just to make a morally and socially correct points does not make you right.

James Berkheimer - BTW, sorry if I sound rude or say anything offensive. I'm just pretty passionate about this and I try to just speak my mind. I mean no offense.

Skip Pulley - If you live an a macro-universe that is based on such insecurity that intentionally insulting someone's intelligence is somehow not offensive, then the chip on your shoulder is equally comprised of righteous indignation and some type of inadequacy that is probably best not to mention. You have missed my point entirely, and I no longer wish to repeat myself. But I do appreciate your enthusiasm. Although I'll bet you are also passionate about all of your life decisions as well. How is that working out for you?

James Berkheimer - Oh no, I get your point, open mind and all blah blah blah. Sometimes you are just wrong and you should admit it. Like right now, I will admit that I was wrong to passive aggressively insult your intelligence. I realized this after I subm...itted my post which is why I posted after that. But just for the record, I know that plate tectonics is right not because someone told me so. I strive to understand why it is right. And frankly I resent the implication that I am so mindless that I just accept whatever anyone tells me is right. How about this, I'll stop thinking you are dumb if you stop thinking that I'm brainwashed. Sounds reasonable....no?
